Scope and Content
The materials in FOIA 2014-0153-F are a selective, not necessarily all inclusive, body of documents responsive to the topic of the FOIA. Researchers should consult the archivist about related materials.
FOIA 2014-0153-F requested documents and correspondence between the White House and various sports organizations concerning the suspension and continuation of play between September 12, 2001, and February 3, 2002. Also requested were any documents and correspondence dealing with President George W. Bush’s appearance at Game 3 of the 2001 World Series on October 30, 2001, at Yankee Stadium.
This FOIA primarily contains routine correspondence between President George W. Bush and Harriet Miers, guest lists for a luncheon, memoranda for photo opportunities, printed emails, printed webpages related to Major League Baseball, schedules for President George W. Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush, briefings for interviews and attending Major League Baseball games, and a speech for Veteran’s Day. Notable documents include a letter from Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig inviting President George W. Bush to throw out the first pitch at Game 3 of the 2001 World Series. Electronic records in this FOIA include scheduling requests for President George W. Bush to appear at Game 3 of the World Series on October 30, 2001, as well as schedules and briefings for that date. Included are memos discussing the impact of 9/11 on various sectors including sports and emails from professional and university sports leagues asking for guidance on continuation of play.
